DEFENCE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES STUDENTS VISIT NDU-K

The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) recently hosted the Defence College of Health Sciences (DCHS) Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Military Health (BScN-MH) 2024/25 cohort at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County. 

The group, led by College Principal Colonel Margaret Wambui, participated in an induction tour where they were briefed on the university’s role in training, capacity building, and its focus on research and innovation in national security and strategy.

DCHS, a College of NDU-K, offers programs designed to train medical professionals to provide healthcare in challenging security environments. Students are trained with a global perspective, emphasizing preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative services for military personnel and allied partners.

During the visit, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Finance & Administration Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a encouraged the students to excel and acquire research and innovation skills that can make impactful contributions to national security and socio-economic development. He also urged participants to engage actively with the university's experts and professionals to gain practical insights into the theories they study at the college.

DVC Research, Innovation & Security Studies, Major General William Shume, emphasized the importance of creativity in research and encouraged securing intellectual property rights for their innovations. He assured the students and faculty that NDU-K has structures in place to protect such innovations through its Intellectual Properties and Innovation Policies.

DVC Academic & Students Affairs, Prof. Ann Muigai, advised the students to stay focused and prioritize their academic journey as they embark on their studies at the college.

Colonel Wambui, Principal of DCHS, reaffirmed the College’s commitment to building human intellectual capacity in healthcare for national security through quality medical education, research, innovation, and leadership.

The BScN-MH class of 2024/2025 consists of 13 students from the three Services of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

Also present during the visit were Director Medical Services Major General George Ng’ang’a, Major General (Rtd) Patrick Amogola, University Registrar Academic Affairs Dr. Stephen Nzioki Mailu, along with Directors and Heads of Departments.
