The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, instructional effectiveness, and innovation in teaching and learning through a capacity-building workshop on pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy. The initiative reflects the university’s response to national and global shifts toward competency-based and learner-centered education.

As higher education practices evolve, NDU-K recognizes the need for educators to become designers of learning experiences, mentors, and facilitators of knowledge. This transformation is central to the university’s mandate of developing critical thinkers and decision-makers who can address national and regional security challenges.

Speaking during the official opening of the workshop at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Ann Muigai, emphasized the institution’s full support for initiatives that strengthen teaching culture and enhance the quality and relevance of academic programs. She highlighted the importance of adopting global best practices in higher education and assured participants that NDU-K will continue to invest in capacity building and the development of innovative teaching strategies.

Prof. Muigai further noted that adapting pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy is vital to meeting the diverse needs of adult learners, professionals, and strategic leaders—groups that are central to the university’s mission.

The workshop brought together participants from across NDU-K colleges and forms part of the university’s ongoing efforts to fulfill its mandate of training and capacity building in specialized fields of national security and strategy.
