The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) has embarked two workshops spread over a four-day period at the Defence Headquarters Officers Mess, in Nairobi.

The workshops, the first on Course Design, Facilitation and Assessment and the second on Publishing are tailored towards improving skill levels of NDU-K staff in developing transformative curricula and effective facilitation of learning and assessment. The workshops also focus on innovative curriculum design and constructive alignment of the university curriculum with its mandate, vision and mission.

Addressing the participants, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academic & Students Affairs Prof. Anne Muigai, representing the Vice-Chancellor (VC) Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, encouraged the participants to be steadfast and embrace the innovative approaches as well as apply the knowledge gained during the training, to develop and implement innovative assessment strategies in their respective capacities.

"Our core objective here is to constantly re-tool and re-skill ourselves and also to remind ourselves of how and what it takes to be an effective lecturer and teacher. We therefore have to be open in our approach and learn from each other," the DVC noted.

NDU-K Head of Teaching & Curriculum, Colonel (Dr) Charles Imbiakha further underscored the importance of honing skills and knowledge reiterating the best way to do that is through embracing a continuous learning process.

The workshops are facilitated by a team of experts in the two areas who include, Prof Khaemba Ongeti, Prof Wanjira Kinuthia, Prof Tom Kwaya, Dr Cynthia Chebet, Dr Daniel Karanja and Mr Timothy Sukya.

Participants include Senior Officers, Officers, Heads of Programme, Researchers and Lecturers from NDU-K Colleges.
